Former Model Speaks to Students about Body Image

Nicole Clark
Body Image is a relevant topic for teens of today whether they are effected directly or indirectly.

Nicole Clark, former model and now Director of Cover Girl Culture, Author, Public Speaker and Media Renegade came by KDSS to speak to grade students about body image and how we the media effects our view on the "ideal body".

Nicole show photos of magazine ads and discuss how advertisers use sexual subliminal messages to get use thinking and wanting the "thing" that is being sold.

The media uses sexual photos to sell something as simply as sunglasses. "Why do people even need to be in some of these ads" said Clark.

Clark showed the audience what a magazine advertiser's view of an athlete is. A skinny, "nearly unhealthy" model is used meanwhile if you look at real athletes they are tone and muscular.

"It's not just the so called overweight people who media ignores, it's even athletes that are fit that  are
portrayed as 'not ideal' body types", Clark mentioned.
