On February 23rd, eight students headed to the Chesley Community Centre for a technology forum by the BWDSB. The big question at the forum was "How can technology best be used in our schools to drive your learning?".
Student lead discussion took place all day with some very interesting topics. Some of the topics that were mention were; Paperless classrooms, open-access wifi at school, smart boards for classrooms, a laptop or tablet (i.e.: iPad) for every student and more Bandwidth.
Representatives from Microsoft were at the forum and spoke about how technology is changing and how the future and the world revolves around it.
Near the end of the meeting all of the students stood in a large circle and said any last point they had for the day. A member of the ICT department of the BWDSB announced that more Bandwidth will be provided to the schools of the BWDSB. More great news came when one of the directors of the BWDSB announced that within the next 6 months all computers in the school board will be updated to a Windows 7 operating system instead of the current Windows XP.
The students left the forum with lots of new ideas and input that will help not only the BWDSB but KDSS.
Technology is the future of education and the future is now! Can't wait for all the changes at KDSS in the near future!
