The Dean's List Award is given to individual student team members. The Dean's List Award is to recognize students for their technical knowledge, leadership skills, and their ability to inspire their team toward the mission of FIRST (For Inspiration & Recognition in Science & Technology). Teams are allowed to recognize 2 students on their team as Dean's List Semi-Finalist, as semi-finalist they eligible to win the Dean's List Finalist Award at a regional. 2 Dean's List Finalist Awards are given out at every regional.

Janelle has been a part of KDSS's Robotics Team (FRC 781) since she was a grade nine. Over her five years of high school education , Janelle has put in countless number of hours toward's the robotics team. She is the person who the team has always looked up to. 2 years ago Janelle restructured the team, and got it more organized. Thanks to Janelle the Team 781 - The Kinetic Knights are more productive then ever before.

If anyone in Team 781's history deserves this award it would be Janelle! Team 781 and the rest of KDSS is more proud then anyone can ever imagine!
At the annual FIRST Championship 10 finalists are then awarded the Dean's List Award during a special award ceremony. In other words; now that Janelle has won the Waterloo Dean's List Award, her name and her story of awesomeness will be presented to judges at the World Championship in St. Louis! Janelle is in the running to be one of ten World Dean's List Winners!
