Bluewater Regional Skills Competition

Drew Thompson with his new tool kit!
On March 23rd, several students from KDSS competed in the Bluewater Regional Skills Competition which is held every year at Georgian College in Owen Sound. Students from each secondary school in the BWDSB compete in a variety of technical challenges, with the winner of each category advancing to further competitions.

Adams Smith (Grade 12) and Braden Harris (Grade 11)  competed in the "Welding" category where they were required to read a drawing, then tack and weld a series of complex metal components. They each received a participants award of some welding tools

The "Carpentry, Team-of-2" category was entered by Cameron Leschied (Grade 11) and Marcel Fohkens (Grade 11). They were required to interpret a drawing and construct a four-post barbecue shelter. They each received a participants award of some carpentry tools.

Drew Thompson (Grade 11) compete in the "Small Powered Equipment catergory". He was required to diagnose faults in both two and four-stroke motors,  solve some electrical circuit challenges, measure some engine parts, as well as write a theoretical test. Congratulations to Drew, who placed second in this competition and now advances to the Near-North Regional competition in Barrie on April 14th. Drew also received a large mechanical tool kits as a prize.
