Coutney Blanchard (Grade 12) shaves Janine Van Veghal for Go Bald or Go Home |
The Student Council fundraiser, "Go Bald or Go Home" was thought up by Van Veghal in December of last year.
"I didn't care why but I just wanted to be bald". Janine Van Veghal remarked.
Student Council had just put in place their "Re-Cool The School" Initiative and Janine agreed that money should go towards fixing up the school but as Student Council likes to help out the community as well, the group agreed with Janine to put half towards the school and donate the other half to the Kincardine Women's House. Janine and the rest of Student Council agreed on a goal of $500, in order for Janine to go bald.
Cans were put in prime locations around the school that students and teachers could put their spare change into. By mid February, only $46 had been raised. Student Council discussed ways in which they could collect more money for this event. A competition between home room classes were created. The class that raised the most money would be get a freshly baked cake of their choice. Van Veghal her self volunteered to bake the cake.

After the date of the event being pushed back twice, original date February 15th, then February 29th and then finally March 2nd, the goal was finally raised.
The grand total raised by the student of KDSS is a whopping $726.90! Amazing!
A special thanks to Mrs. Taylor's grade 10 science who raised the most at a total of $146.12! Way to go SNC2D! A cake of their choice will be given to them Monday (March 5th) by Janine.
Janine got her hair shaven off at lunch time in the cafeteria in front of the majority of the student body. It was an amazing event! Thanks for going bald for this cause!
